HHD helped a deaf student negotiate for an apartment

Recently a deaf student came to HHD asking for help in renting an apartment.  Two hearing social workers, a hard of hearing lady, and a friend of HHD worked with the deaf student who needed to find a place to live. We worked for 2 months trying to find a place that fit the deaf student's needs.  

HHD organized a meeting with a prospective landlord. HHD helped the student negotiate with the landlord for the amount of monthly rental payments and rules the student would need to follow as a renter. 

The meeting went well and ended with an agreement! This deaf student will move in and rent a room in the landlord's home starting in March 2017. It's exciting to be a part of helping the deaf! 

HHD advocating for deaf in metro Atlanta area

Meskel Crowe, CEO of Helping Hands for the Deaf (HHD), recently went to court with a deaf client to appeal with a judge about medical coverage. She advocated for the deaf client and that client will now have full medical coverage by Medicaid. Everything went smoothly in the court.

Meskel went with another deaf client to an attorney's office to modify the client's mortgage. With Meskel's help this deaf client reduced his monthly mortgage payment by $200. With HHD's help that client can afford to pay thier mortgage payment now.
