Blessed time at Thanksgiving dinner

Helping Hands for the Deaf and friends had a blessed time at our Thanksgiving dinner! The deaf people were blessed with gifts in shoeboxes given by Naomi. We thank Naomi for cans of food  and shoeboxes with goodies inside. Without Naomi, what will they get? Nothing! I didn't take many pictures of everyone who received gifts from Naomi because we didn't have enough time. We all loved seeing our friends' faces light up smile and bright eyes.

Happy Thanksgiving from HHD

Hello! Are you ready for Thanksgiving? Indeed, we are!

Helping Hands for the Deaf is a not - for - profit organization committed to providing a shelter for those who cannot afford a home to live in, transportation for those who do not have any mean of transportation, and tutoring for independent living.

Do you know a deaf person who is single, doesn't have a family, and cannot afford food to cook for Thanksgiving? If so, please let us know. We will give this person further information on the location where we get together to eat Thanksgiving dinner as a family.

Happy Thanksgiving!

HHD helps deaf get Salvation Army jobs

Meskel Crowe, the founder and director of Helping Hands for the Deaf, went to the local Salvation Army to help them give the bell ringer orientation again this year.  She helped some deaf people fill out the job applications on Friday and they were put to work quickly on Monday, November 14. They have been ringing bells since then. It is very nice of the Salvation Army to give them jobs!

Chili Cook-off went well!

We had a great time at the Chili Cookoff.  DeeAnn Harmon won the contest and got a $25 gift card to local restaurant.   We also gave out door prizes and had a special surprise for Aeim's Birthday.  Many thanks to all that came out to support Helping Hands for the Deaf!

Chili cook-off coming up!

Thanks for the help!

We have already been blessed by many workers helping to update our mobile home.  Deaf Teen Quest came over and Henry Baptist Church Youth came. The kitchen is painted, the small bathroom, and most if the master bathroom. The deck has been pressure washed and also the roof has been reshingled.

GVRS grant training was great!

HHD would like to say a big "thank you" to Profession Stephen, for letting Helping Hands for the Deaf (HHD) to set up the training session for the deaf people at the Foundation Center. Also, big thanks to Bob Green who retired from Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Service (GVRS). Bob Green invited deaf people, some deaf organizations and volunteers to this session. This session showed them how to search, find, and send requests for grants for their organizations. We all worked together like putting puzzle together! Romans 8:28-39 reads, "And we know that all things work together for good to them..." Also, thank you, Bob Green, for making this session a success. He is very generous and kind.

What a blessing! That was the first time for the training session to be taught only for the deaf people at the Foundation Center. There were 12 deaf people in this session. They asked good questions. We enjoyed and learned how to find grants. It was fun to meet all of them.  Hope that we will get together again!

Happy New Year from HHD!

Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday. Helping Hands had a wonderful month in December.

● We helped 6 people get temporary jobs with the Salvation Army, and we have a good prospect for other deaf people to get full time employment soon.

● We helped deaf people get their citizenship.

● We had a successful fundraising event with a bake sale at Five Below.

● We provide transportation to deaf friends who go to see their doctors.

● We are applying for grants to help support us in purchasing a home.

Thanks to everyone for helping us with the bake sale, and to others assisting us to find employment for deaf people.

We have started a great ongoing fundraising program and it is very easy for us to get involved. People who shop at Kroger can sign up with their personal ID number and a certain percentage of your purchase goes to our organization. Just sign up and follow the instruction.

We hope you have a wonderful and rewarding 2016!
